My trip to Mexico is over. We wrapped up a few things before I left. In no particular order:
Electrical power:
The transformer at Site #2 that brings power to Site #3 died, so no electricity at Site #3. Electrical crew should be replacing it this week, as well as installing a new and improved ground system at tall of the sites.
Dome azimuth home switches:
We got it installed correctly at Site #2. This was after we broke one of the switches because there was a low-hanging bolt on the hydraulics that I missed, it snapped off the top of the switch as it moved by while rotating the dome. We replaced the broken switch with the one for Site #3. We will get a new switch and install it at Site #3 next trip. The switch for Site #1 has been installed, but not tested. We need to grease the dome track (ran out of grease earlier in the trip) before we can rotate the dome to test the installation.
Here is a photo from Site #2. The switch is the black thing sticking off the top of the electrical tower which powers up the slip rings. The ramp which opens the switch at the home position is off to the right.
Dome azimuth encoders:
All three of the encoders are installed. We only tested the one at Site #2 (no power at Site #3, no grease on the track at Site #1). It pops out of the track during a short stretch of rotation, but I have been told how to fix that, it's a pretty easy fix which I will do next trip. Here is a photo of the encoder at Site #2.
Panels for dome control electronics:
We just used a piece of plywood, and used brackets made by one of the UNAM machinists to mount them to the columns. The panels are installed at Sites #2 and #3, the panel for Site #1 is cut and drilled, and the brackets are mounted. All we need to do to finish is paint the wood (we ran out of paint), which we will do next trip.
Here is a photo of the panel at Site #2. The dome control boxes from Ash are on the left, and the dome radio control box that DFM provided is on the right. There is more room for other things if we need it.
Gantry crane hoist chain buckets:
This is very unexciting, but we replaced two of the gantry crane hoist chain buckets with new ones sent by DFM with the telescopes. One of the originals was too long (it would have hit the mirror cell when moving it), and one was too small (it couldn't hold the entire chain). Here is a photo.
Enclosure lights:
All the lights are installed except for two, which are missing the bases. We will do those next trip. The circuitry on the electronics vault at Site #2 is messed up, the electrical crew will fix it when they are there for the grounding work. We were unable to test the lights at Site #3 because of the power problems, but everything else at Sites #1 and #2 were working fine. Here is a photo from the observing chamber at Site #2.
Mirror coating fixture:
We needed to modify the support structure to work with the hooks for the coating chamber, That work is done, so we are ready to coat the primary mirrors. Here is a photo of the fixture hanging on the hooks.
And finally, here is a nice shot of all three domes from the 2m telescope.
